About the scholarship
This scholarship is to support a Ngāti Tūwharetoa undergraduate student at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington studying in any of the four categories listed below, which align to the Pou identified in the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Boards Mahere Rautaki 2021-2026.
The four categories for consideration are:
Pou Taiao
We are kaitiaki of our moana and awa
This pou encourages the active protection of our wai and natural environment inclusive of mātauranga Tūwharetoa.
Pou Tikanga
Ngāti Tūwharetoa live as Tūwharetoa
This pou supports the maintenance and practice of Tūwharetoa kawa and tikanga, and the nurturing and revitalisation of te reo Māori.
Pou Tangata
Ngāti Tūwharetoa are educated, health, and connected
This pou focuses on educational and vocational achievement, healthy active lifestyles, a holistic approach to wellbeing, and the adoption of new technology, innovation, and media to remain connected and engaged with Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
Pou Tātāwhai
We successfully manage our assets for the benefit of future generations
This pou recognises that a sound approach to business management supports the achievement of our Mahere Rautaki. Fiduciary responsibility, while achieving positive financial returns, will build long-term revenue streams for future generations of Ngāti Tūwharetoa.
Entry requirements
Each applicant will need to be studying full time at Victoria University of Wellington for an undergraduate qualification in one of the above areas and be registered with the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board.
- Applicants must be studying full time at Victoria University of Wellington towards an undergraduate qualification.
- Applicants must be studying in one of the following areas: Environmental Science, Te Reo Māori, Education, Health, Engineering, Commerce or Law.
- Applicants must be registered with the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board.
A completed online application must be submitted by 4.30 pm on the closing date. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted. Any required supporting documentation (including references) must also be received by 4.30 pm on the closing date in order for the application to be considered.
