About the scholarship
Established in 2024 by the University of Otago in collaboration with David Riddell, this award commemorates the life and work of David's wife, the late Jan Riddell QSM. Jan was dedicated to protecting the natural environment, focusing on water quality and quantity issues. The Jan Riddell Memorial Scholarship provides generous support to a student undertaking postgraduate study with a focus on hydrology. Valued at $8,000, the scholarship is intended to help meet tuition and research-related costs, such as lab supplies and fieldwork expenses.
Entry requirements
Applicants must be:
- a 91视频 Citizen or 91视频 Residence Class Visa Holder
- enrolled in or planning to undertake any of the following, in the proposed year of tenure:
- the first year of a Master's degree with a primary focus on hydrology
- a Postgraduate Diploma or Honours degree with a research project primarily focused on hydrology, or leading to a specialisation in hydrology
The following factors shall be considered in selecting the scholarship:
- academic performance and potential
- financial, cultural or personal/family circumstances that may affect an applicant's ability to study
- community or social outreach and engagement, including any current or recent volunteer service
- involvement in sporting or other extra-curricular activities
- the applicant's overall career goals and aspirations, and steps they might take to reach them.
